IntroductionI would like to talk about “Myanmar Migrant Worker in Thailand” that satiation is happening at present. Most of the Myanmar workers suffer with many. conditions without saving their lives in Thailand and others places. Especially, I wanna suggest how I am collating information about those problems of Migrant people regarding with my views.
The Plight of Myanmar Migrants
Situation of Myanmar workers in Thailand
The understandings of me, there are two kind of Migrant workers that permit –workers and non-permit workers. The majority people are working in Thailand without work-permits but the Thai government gives the chance to make work-permit by giving among 4500 to 5000 Baths for one year even though they have not passport to living long because Thailand needs so many labors to Develop Thai economy so they allowed to enter many foreigners from other countries such as Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos since nearly 20 years ago. But after the population of labors increase more and more during 20 years. The Thai state budget had been developing for inviting foreign labors.
However Thai police force the migrant workers by many ways in order to get money and I heard that some place, the police wait and catch to workers and they used to ask for work-permit. if someone have not work-permit , at least he have to pay 3000 to 4500 without any reason even he forgot to bring or lost his work-permit or not . Especially, most of the Myanmar workers, they don’t used to make passport to work in Thailand. Because they cannot spend more money for making passport and also they know how to cross the border to enter in Thailand but the labors cannot cross easily to the border. They used to cross by boat. Those workers travel by bus from border (Mae Sot, Re low) to others places.
Having so many suffer in Thailand why Burmese worker come to here?. In this question, my answer is that to get good job to get more money and some worker run from their villages for force by military government of Burma. But actually not , most of the Myanmar worker had been suffering by many ways in Thailand. Not only Burmese government gives force to his public but also they have been intimidated by that police. Nearly 50% Myanmar workers have not travel document in Thailand. As much as I know, some workers have not chance to go around here and there in a town or city in spite of they has work-permit because of police. The reason why I guess the pollution of migrant’s workers in Thailand. At present, a foreign normal worker gets 150 to 120 baths in a day. It is their basic salary for them but some place they get 80 to 150 baths such as Mae Sot.
Thai people are willing to work in demeaning jobs as the labors. Myanmar workers work in many shortages without life guarantee. This is one of the big problems for Burmese migrant workers and their families.
“Burmese workers in Thailand, when they have a work permit, are not so fortunate as Thais because:1. Although theoretically protected, they do not have the same rights under Thai law as a Thai person.
2. Dishonest practices and corruption amongst employers and some government officials, such as policemen, make
it difficult for a registered Burmese worker to exercise the rights to which he or she is entitled by law.”[1]
Myanmar workers without work-permits have totally difficult situation because they do not have a right ways where they are what to do and how to live without face to police in everyday lives. They can only remain their mouths every time because they are the afraid of police. Some time we heard that very bad news that some of opportunists pretend arrested the girls and make sexily misconduct till several days. Those girls were shy to talk about others what their were done by opportunists and if I suggest truly at 5 months ago one of the real police man caught a Burmese girl in Machine at night and the police told her if you were sleep with me one night I can you to let home . She agreed that because there was not ways to choose others she said to Burmese news. After slept one
night with him she complained to the police station. The police officer arrested him. Before this accented situation some of police never though they would be arrested by that ways but finely, they were in prison. After he was arrested he said that I didn’t think she would not complain to police station. Actually, thus kind of happening is very commonly event we herd recently however we were not herd complaining to police station such as that girl. She revealed her event without thinking shyness in the community it is a very rarely event because most of girls remain their mouths.
I thought thus event most of the Myanmar girls have not any supporter to solve those problem. Their lives are just like non-parents persons. Because they have not human right due to Burmese government. However Myanmar migrant’s workers population increase bit by bit. Workers were originally report by UNHCR the number of population 1,315,193 registered migrants workers in 2009. Some NGOs believe the population of Burmese workers may be as high as three million. But in 2011, increase 2, 0090,429 said by UNHCR. However minority migrant workers make registered 55749 persons said by Thai officer 21, March, 2011. About 80% percent of labors migrants in the country are Burmese with the rest from Cambodia and Laos.
Myanmar people accounted for the largest collation by NGO the population at 38.5%. Shan people (Tai Yao) 20.4%, Dawei 12.8%, Mon 12.3%, Karen 8.6%, Rakhine 3.4% and tribes 4%. Most of migrant workers in Mae Sot where 85% are Myanmar people said by Myanmar migrant workers origination (MMWO).
Burmese Refugees in Thailand
There are very difficult to account numbers of Refugee people in Thailand because we heard recently the government finding with another national Armies in the border of Thailand. The national Armies (Native of country) and the Burmese government are always tense events. Those situation is usually intimidated to local people within finding areas so what people run away to without dangers places such as Thailand, Malaysia, India, China and Bangladesh. Due to thus events we are difficult to talk exactly.
However United Nation (UN) Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reporting 123,000 recognized refuges living in nine camps along the Thai-Myanmar border in 2010.
The ethnic people such as Shan, Karen, Mon, Chin, Rakhine (Arakan ) who have fled across the Thai border enter the migrant workers and refugees population. Most of the refugees came from Shan and Karen state in Thailand. In India Chin refugees have approximately 50,000 in Mizoram and several thousand more in Delhi. Most of Khechin people leave to China. The majority Refugees travel to Malaysia where some estimate 30,000-50,000 have fled to either work or apply for refugee status. They are used to accept mostly from U.SA, Canada and Norway in order to retain their citizenship.
In Thailand, Burmese refugees (95% from Myanmar) lived in 13 camps along Thai-Myanmar borders. The information form Myanmar migrants origination in Mae Sot that-
“1 Apr 2011 – Thailand: No Safe Refuge Thu, 03/24/2011 – 14:28 ... The eruption of conflict between the Burmese military and an ... leaving them with only enough food to last until April. ... The Thai government and UNHCR only recognize about 83000 people, but TBBC provides food rations for the entire population. .”..[2]
This information was correctly recognized because we are recently find out so many danger events like a thus situation. there is no way to stop increasing refugees because the Burmese never give up their power and also another native country national armies don’t want to alive forever under the military law.
Education
The migrants educated people try to promote education for migrant children in Thailand especially Mae Sot because they believe that if providing education and increasing their knowledge , they will be protect by themselves and can strengthen self-reliance among migrant communities. But thousands of children of Burmese migrant workers in Thailand are missing out an education.
Some NGO support to establish to migrant learning centers in Mae Sot but mostly depend on themselves because most migrants’ workers children have not chance to study together with Thai children that’s why the small budding migrants learning centers is the mean foundation for children to provide quality education. I understand that education is the key to improving life to everyone especially to children when they group up if they are not suitable educated person they are immediately labors.
Some migrant’s parents said when their children were asking for assistance to start schools and to attend stranded schools such as Thai children. They said our heat is not strong enough to say “No” to their children. This problem has been eventually everywhere in migrant’s worker places but currently there are 62 migrant learning canters acknowledged by Ministry of Education.
Students were born either in Burma or Thailand or in Refugee camps along Thai –border and some of them are stateless.
“Most of the teacher are from Myanmar some teacher have high qualification those I heard they are paid between THB 1500-400 ( about USD50-130) per month, But there are also conditions that they are paid less them THB 1500.”[3]
However many teacher choose not to leave school even when they have better choices because they love their national children and they are sacrificed their lives for only nationality but Burmese is not like that. Not only Burmese government careless their people but also most migrant’s workers children can attend school under Thai policy regardless of their status in the country.
Healthy
Most of the Myanmar people can take medical tremens but if someone have not labor card or work-permit that are very difficult to go hospital or clinic. If some already die, has not work-permit he are not allowed to burn him alive in a fire chamber. However most of Myanmar monks’ students can help that kind of situation because having Myanmar monk students in Bangkok they used to come and monks also support each other but another country side has been very difficult to solve this kind of problem.
And continually Myanmar migrant workers throughout Thailand got legal labor card for Thailand and Myanmar temporary passport. Those who are infected HIV failed the blood they are not allowed to get work permit. Thus all about situation is very sorry plight for Myanmar migrant’s people.
Conclusion
In great sorrow, I feel that without speak up my mouths due to the Burmese Government that I wanna blame to Government because you know every bad things is depend on Government .All situation is under the ground for Myanmar people in from of the border countries and all over the world nowadays .
I learnt only one thing from this topic that sacrifice is not suitable for everywhere such as Myanmar because if you do to give open eyes to others with regarding to political job you must arrest in prison or die. That truly understands.
