Bodhisattva
ideal from Theravada and Mahayana point
of view
Buddisattava
ideal is one of the most important ideals in Mahayana Buddhism . bodhisattava is a person who in his essential being is
motivated by the desire to win full enlightenment to be a Buddha.
According to
Theravada, boddhisattava is the
embodiment ( an idea exactly) of supreme unselfishness. He solemnly( quality
beings serous ) dedicates himself to the service of all beings who stand in
need of succor( help) suffering the most
atrocious ( very bad quality ) tortures
( make pain to someone ), if necessary if thereby he may save others from pain
and sorrow.
A bodhisattva is
said to be dominated by two forces – compassion and wisdom. His attitude
reality Compassion governs his conduct
towards his fellow beings, wisdom his attitude to reality the essence of
buddhisatava ideal consists in the vow to attain enlightenment not for oneself
but for all beings
Namely the
practice of the six paramitas , in his career a bodhisattva is said to go
through ten stages of spiritual development . the boddhisatava’s career is one
of long training a progress rising in stages to Buddhahood.
According to
Mahayana , there are five prominent ( well known) , bodhisattava, nemelly,
avalokitesvara, mabjuwri, maitreya, kshitigarbha and samantabhadra. But among
them the most outstanding one is avalokitewavara. The avalokitesvara is a
bodhisattava of the ninthstage who is governed by compassion holds a lotus and
in his mercy helops all beings in distress. Mabjuwuri who edcels in wisdom
holds a sword and imparts wisdom to those who impore him maitreya, the coming
buddha, now in the tushita heaven who represents friendliness hold a flask
filled with the elixir of immortality and will lead many to enlightenment at a
future time. Kshitagarbha, a lord of the nether world who holds a staff and
